About The Winning Streak
88 games in a row the Martensdale-St. Mary’s Blue Devils baseball team in Iowa won. “The Streak” as it came to be called, covered the two summers of Iowa high school baseball and into a third, culminating 3 times with the 1A State Championship at Principal Park in Des Moines.
When the season ended in July 2011, The Streak was the existing National High School Record for consecutive wins at 87. That was passed early in the spring of 2012 in New England by the Portsmouth, NH team resetting the record to 89 wins. The Blue Devils opened the 2012 season simply looking to win 1 pitch at a time, with a goal not of streaks, but, of defending their state championship. The team motto/mission in 2012 – “All we see is three!”
